The commercial vehicle technology conference that historically kicks off Work Truck Week is undergoing a structural and thematic shift. NTEA – The Work Truck Association, in collaboration with the NAFA Fleet Management Association, have announced the Green Truck Summit will evolve into the Future Truck Summit beginning in 2027.
For construction contractors managing commercial fleets, the updated curriculum will pivot from a primary focus on alternative fuels to a broader examination of the software, hardware, and on-vehicle technologies actively shaping equipment performance.
Here is a breakdown of what contractors and fleet managers can expect from the transition and how it addresses modern equipment specifications.
What specific vehicle features and technologies will the Future Truck Summit cover?
While the event originally debuted in 2009 with a focus on hybrid vehicles and alternative fuels, the 2027 iteration will place increased emphasis on vehicle-specific hardware and software. Contractors can expect technical details and educational sessions covering:
- Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
- Vehicle sensors and connected vehicle data
- Lightweighting and advanced composites
- Power management systems
- Artificial intelligence (AI) applications in fleet management
How will these technologies impact fleet performance and real-world applications?
The expanded curriculum is designed to address how these rapidly evolving technologies drive improvements in commercial vehicle efficiency, safety, and overall durability. By combining NAFA’s fleet management data with NTEA’s connections to manufacturers and upfitters, the sessions aim to provide contractors with actionable steps and real-world applications. The goal is to help businesses position their fleets to capitalize on hardware and fuel type changes expected over the next five years.
How is the educational programming structured for fleet managers and upfitters?
The Future Truck Summit will maintain a format consisting of a morning keynote address and general sessions, followed by afternoon breakout sessions. Due to the collaboration between NTEA and NAFA, the number of afternoon technical breakouts is expected to increase significantly. These sessions will focus on delivering cutting-edge technical information tailored for fleet managers, upfitters, and truck dealers.
When and where will the Future Truck Summit take place?
The inaugural Future Truck Summit will debut on March 9, 2027, at the JW Marriott Indianapolis. It will continue to be held on the Tuesday of Work Truck Week, one day before The Work Truck Show exhibit hall opens. Registration for the event will open in the fall of 2026. Prior to the rebranding, Work Truck Week 2026 takes place as scheduled March 10-13, 2026, at the Indiana Convention Center.
