JLG Industries Inc., an Oshkosh Corp. business, has acquired the core technology developed by Canvas, a San Francisco-based construction robotics company focused on interior construction applications.

The companies began working together about six years ago, when Canvas selected a JLG platform to develop its drywall finishing robot. Since then, the technology has been used to automate repetitive interior construction tasks, with the goal of improving consistency, safety and jobsite efficiency.

Mahesh Narang, executive vice president of Oshkosh Corp. and president of the Access segment, said the acquisition supports efforts to address ongoing labor challenges by expanding the capabilities of construction equipment.

Canvas is best known for developing a robotic system for drywall finishing that combines automation with skilled labor. The technology automates fit-and-finish tasks, reducing rework and physical strain on workers while supporting consistent results.

As part of the acquisition, Canvas technology will be integrated into JLG access equipment to support a range of interior construction applications. According to JLG, the systems are intended to assist crews by handling repetitive, physically demanding work, allowing workers to focus on more complex tasks.

The Canvas team will join JLG and support the development of future robotic and autonomous construction solutions.
